Press freedom in Tanzania

Press freedom is the way of how media  industry can manage to do their work of finding and disseminate news without being enterfered by any one from outside regardless whether is a government, prominent person and endividuals

Tanzania has mushroom of media outlets, there are daily news papers, weekly and monthly, radios and televisions.

Despite of being many media outlets in the country, still the press freedom in Tanzania is not very friendly because there are some laws which contribute to suppress the press freedom.

One among those laws is a newspaper act of 1976  which make restriction to journalists to publish stories which the government sees that endanger the safety of the country.this act also empowers authorities to register or to ban publication.

Also the national security act allows the government to punish any investigation journalism that touches on information concerned the state.

Article 18 of the Constitution of Tanzania explain of freedom of expression and opinion without interference from outside forces.but although the Constitution of Tanzania provides for freedom speech, several laws induce self censorship and limits the ability of media to function effectivily

These laws also  makes it pratically impossible for journalists to do their job and empower public officials, prominent people and individuals to file a defamation case against those editors and their media who publisize information that touche their interests ,whereby these people freequently use court injection to suppress critical reporting.

Moreever, police ,government and the rule party are still abusing journalist who attempting to cover the opposition issues.
